Elea Bernou, Psy.D.
Dr. Bernou is a clinical neuropsychologist (CA PSY 16226), who has for 15 years provided psychological and neuropsychological evaluations and consultation for children (age 6 and up), adolescents, and adults.
Dr. Bernou completed her doctorate at Alliant University’s California School of Professional Psychology. She completed her internship and postdoctoral training at McAuley Neuropsychiatric Institute (St. Mary’s Medical Center, San Francisco), and further postdoctoral training at San Francisco General Hospital and Oakland Children’s Hospital in the Neuropsychology Services. From 1998-2002 she created and directed a school-based mental health and learning disabilities assessment program in the San Francisco Catholic school system, serving 17 schools. Dr. Bernou has also worked in a variety of other settings including residential and day treatment settings for adults and adolescents, school-based treatment setting, and hospital and outpatient facilities serving all ages.
Dr. Bernou continues to be deeply interested in understanding the "whole person". She wishes to uncover the ways in which a person's weaknesses may be contributing to functional difficulties in the world. In addition, she seeks to understand how the individual's strengths may contribute to the development of a support plan that may include remediation, alternative educational placement, psychological treatment, and/or educational accommodations and services. The goal of an evaluation is not just diagnosis but, more importantly, a long term "plan" for success.
