Pamela Hawkins, Ph.D.
Pamela Hawkins is a licensed psychologist (PSY10420). She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and her doctorate from U.C. Berkeley. She developed a particular interest in the intersection of education and psychology during the 1970’s while on the faculty of the University of Chicago teaching emotionally disturbed children at the Orthogenic School. After moving to California, she was a school counselor for three years and for the past twenty years has had a private practice with offices in both Marin County and San Francisco. Dr. Hawkins graduated from the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute in 2000.
Pamela has a rich background in both assessment and clinical work. While in graduate school she held a half-time position testing children for a pioneering study of hyperactivity. Since that time, she has assessed children and adolescents for Edgewood Children’s Center, Children’s Garden, Ross Hospital as well as in private practice. Her teaching experience at U.C. Davis, Dominican College and the extension division of the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute has focused on the assessment and treatment of children. In addition, she has spoken and written on children’s understanding of death and divorce. Pamela serves as a Board member of the New Leader Scholarship Fund which provides social, emotional and financial support to first generation immigrants to attend college and graduate work in California.
